This weeks short film documents a Graffiti artist and his thoughts. I love the different shot and the overall cinematography. This short was shot on a Canon with a Canon 50mm 1.8 and also a canon 18-55mm. There was also a few shots taken with a GoPro cam mixed in there.

The sandpit is this weeks highlighted short film. I love the way this short was shot! It makes the city look like a minature city! They way they did this short was all stopmotion! Here's what they had to say.
"It is shot on a Nikon D3 (and one shot on a D80), as a series of stills. I used my Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 lenses for all of these shots. Most were shot at 4fps in DX crop mode, which is the fastest the D3 could continuously write out to the memory card. The boats had slower frame rates, and the night shots used exposures up to two seconds each. The camera actually has an automatic cut off after 130 shots, so for longer shots I counted each click and quickly released and re-pressed the shutter release after 130 to keep shooting."
Here it is!

One of my favorite things to do is to look at all the awesome equipment for filmmakers! The technology is so advanced and the gear you can get is endless!
The first Item on the list is Rigs. I personally use a Customized RedRock Micro Eyespy rig with a RedRock Follow Focus. I use RedRock because I believe their products are top of the line and they are always coming out with new gear to add to your rig. Thats the best part! You can personalize you rig how ever it best suits you! the rigs you can buy an be changed and added on to to make you rig work for you.

Next on the list, dolly/cranes. I have always wanted a crane system to get all those very cinematic shots you see in the movies. I hear that the guys over at
www.kesslercrane.com make great DSLR cranes. So, maybe in the future I will get one? Also, the make dollies. I have a dolly for my tripod but that is more of a temporary set up. I will for sure be looking into a tracked dolly in the near future! Last is a slider. A slider is basically a miniature dolly for your camera. They're used for smaller camera movement or when you don't have time to set up a track. Kessler also makes great sliders so check em' out!
Last on my list, lighting. I NEED lighting! I have been looking every where for a good quality lighting kit for cheap. Believe me its tough. What I'm looking for in a kit would be 3 lights. 2 with soft boxes and one with barn doors. The best I could find were these. www.tubetape.net I would also order 2 barn doors to go with those.
Well there you have it. My list of gear i wish to have. Any others you want? let me know by leaving a comment!
Enjoy,
Zack

Hey, Guys. So the first step I take when making a film is coming up with a story then writing the script.
First thing you need to make a film is the story. For me this is by far the hardest part of making a film. Coming up with a creative, fun filmable idea. Every one tells you "write what you know". I try to. for me I like the more twilighty, twist ending type films or if any one has seen The BlackBox Tv on you tube. (http://bit.ly/eq5Xqt) the darker types of films.
Ok. Now you have your box office idea! Great! Now your off to a great start. Next step is solidifying your idea. Get a pice of paper and pen and sit down a wright dow a brief description of each scene you want in your film. Make sure you make sure to add in enough detail so that later on looking back you can instantly remember what is is you pictured, in your head.
Now its time to start your script! There are many scripting softwares out there you can use. I personally use Celtx. Its a free downloadable software you can get online. Over all its a great scripting software. If your willing to shell out a few bucks Final draft is the best scripting software out there. Now your ready to get writing. Grab out that pice of paper with the scene descriptions, you wrote out earlier.
Now when your writing your script add as much detail as possible so that later on when your ready to shoot, your film, you remember what you picture while you were writing. If you hit writers block, and you will, don't just stare and over think what to do next. Get away from your script. leave your script and get it off your mind. the more you think about it the harder it is. just push it to the back of your mind. Never forget to SAVE! the worst thing is when you open your script and your 4 hours of typing is gone! So, SAVE often! and now you have yourself a script!
Thanks,
Zack
